Soluble in tartaric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, etc., slightly soluble in alcohol and ammonium salts, insoluble in acetic acid, dilute alkali, and dilute inorganic acids. Insoluble in cold water, hydrolyzed in hot water to form colloids. Used as opaque filler, opacifier for enamel, acid resistant paint for iron sheets and steel plates, as a glass clarifier, and as a flame retardant synergist.
